Its fruit is a small, ovoid berry, at first green, then red during summer, and finally becoming bluish-black. It is not suitable for human consumption. It likes a sunny or partially shaded, warm spot, but does not tolerate hot sun. It likes well-drained, permeable, nutrient-rich soil. Its water needs are moderate. Easy to grow and requires little care. Pruning consists of removing dead and damaged branches. During winter, the pink buds are a lovely sight in any garden, a sign of the coming of spring. Perfect as a specimen plant, thanks to its size, striking foliage and interesting, long-blooming flowers.
